The Missouri Attorney General has issued a warning concerning various scams that have popped up attempting to take further advantage of persons on the heals of the Target security breach issues. The Attorney General indicated that “Thieves pretending to be from Target or a consumer’s bank or credit-card company have been contacting consumers by phone or email and asking for their personal and financial information. The thieves can use this information to steal the consumer’s identity. [Attorney General] Koster reminded consumers that neither Target nor their financial institution would ask for their personal information over the phone or by email.” Persons should not reply to e-mails concerning this subject and should not supply personal information over the telephone.
